Where young talents met real competition
In 2024, Brain Chess Academy hosted the third edition of its Primary Schools Chess Tournament, continuing to build a strong platform for young chess players to compete, learn, and grow.
The event took place once again at Christ the King School, Gbagada, bringing together 20 selected schools for a more focused and highly competitive tournament experience.
But don’t let the number fool you, this edition was intense from start to finish.

Structured Competition, Real Experience
Unlike casual play, the tournament followed a standard competitive format, where players faced multiple opponents across several rounds, with rankings updated based on performance after each round.
This meant:
- Every game counted
- Every point mattered
- And consistency was just as important as skill
For many of the students, this was not just a game it was their first taste of real tournament chess, where focus, patience, and decision-making were tested under pressure.
Top Performers of the Tournament
After a series of closely contested rounds, the best-performing schools emerged:
🥇 Indian Language School, Lagos took the championship title, showing strong positional understanding and calm decision-making throughout the tournament.
🥈 Applesbury School, Gbagada secured the first runner-up position with disciplined play and impressive consistency across rounds.
🥉 Home Science Association of Nursery and Primary School, Oko Oba once again proved their strength, finishing as second runner-up and maintaining their place among the top-performing schools over the years.

A Different Level of Play
One thing stood out clearly in this edition, the quality of games had improved significantly.
- Students were thinking ahead, not just reacting
- Openings were played with more confidence
- Endgames were handled with better understanding
You could tell these were no longer beginners. These were young players learning how to compete properly.
The Journey Continues
The 3rd edition showed something important:
Brain Chess Academy is not just organizing tournaments; it is raising a generation of smart, confident thinkers.
With each edition, the structure gets better, the players get stronger, and the impact goes deeper.
