Brain Chess Primary Schools Tournament – 1st Edition (2022)

Where it all began — bringing young minds together through chess

In 2022, Brain Chess Academy hosted the first edition of its Primary Schools Chess Tournament, marking the beginning of what has now become a growing platform for young chess talents.

Held at Christ the King School, Gbagada, the event brought together 40 primary schools, each represented by bright young players ready to compete, learn, and showcase their skills on the board.

From the very first round, it was clear that this was more than just a competition. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, focus, and determination as students carefully planned their moves and challenged one another in a series of intense matches.

Standout Performances

After a series of competitive rounds, a few schools rose above the rest with remarkable performances:

🥇 LillyWhite Primary School emerged as the overall winner, displaying consistency, confidence, and strong tactical play throughout the tournament.

🥈 Tender Light Haven School secured the first runner-up position with an impressive showing and resilient gameplay.

🥉 Home Science Association of Nursery and Primary School, Oko Oba claimed the second runner-up spot, rounding off the top three with a commendable performance.

More Than Just a Tournament

Beyond the winners, the tournament created an opportunity for:

  • Students to experience competitive chess early
  • Schools to engage in meaningful intellectual competition
  • Young players to build confidence and decision-making skills

For many of the participants, this was their first real tournament experience, and it left a lasting impression — inspiring them to take chess more seriously.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

The success of the 1st edition laid a strong foundation for future tournaments. It proved that with the right platform, young players can rise, compete, and thrive.

What started with 40 schools in 2022 has now grown into a much larger vision — one that continues to impact thousands of students across different schools and communities.
